Work of Art
Art critic Jerry Saltz has an article on New York Magazine’s web site, which you can read here about his thoughts on Bravo’s Work of Art TV show. He’s also got really good recaps of all the episodes up on the site. I really liked the show, despite its short season and I’m glad with how it ended. I’m hoping for a 2nd season, and I hope it comes soon. We need better shows on TV.

This Saturday I’m DJ’ing the 80′s Alternative Mix at Morseland in Rogers Park with Dec8de and The Buck Stops Here. It’s my first gig at Morseland so I’m pretty excited but it should be awesome.

Trials HD, I love you.
What the hell took me so long to get Trials HD for Xbox 360? It’s so addicting and good, I wish I got it a year ago when it came out. I might go play some more right now in fact. Okay bye.

This weekend in photos
This weekend’s fun was well documented by my mobile phone and Diana camera. Here’s what happened:
The Handsome Devilz played at Navy Pier. They played 2 sets but because of work, we were only able to see the 2nd set. A great show as always and in a great setting. I need to get over to Navy Pier again this summer.
I shot a bunch of other photos at Navy Pier also. Check the flickr page to see the rest of them.
We then walked over to the loop and saw the Tony Tasset “Eye” and laughed at these guys who were smoking pot and heckling the Lollapalooza crowd as they walked by. I walked back to the Chicago brown line stop and finished my roll of film at the Cadillac Palace Theater.
On Saturday we saw The Cribs at The Cubby Bear. Warpaint opened and killed it. A special treat was to see Johnny Marr so close and so great with The Cribs. I’m definitely going to listen to more of these bands.
Martha Colburn is one of my favourite experimental filmmmakers. I love how all her animations are handmade and shot on 16mm film. There’s a very timeless quality to them and a visual style that I hope never goes away.

The Black Angels
The Black Angels announced a tour (Chicago on October 28th) which is not to be missed. The new album comes out September 14th. With so many good shows and new releases, this fall is going to be great for music. Check out their new song “Bad Vibrations” right here.
Thursday was our last night of The Queen is Dead residency at the Abbey Pub. I took these photos with my Canon SureShot 35mm. Check out the rest on flickr.
It was an awesome year at the Abbey with The Handsome Devilz, Mike Mischen, our guest DJ’s and bands. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings us!
