New Music – Mutineers

I recently came into contact with an amazing new band that I have to share with the world. The Manchester band Mutineers found me on Twitter, I checked them out and a couple of messages later I’m sending them interview questions for the site. They remind me of all the music I love from The Smiths, Suede, Geneva, to newer English bands like Chapel Club and The Courteeners. With that, here are some words from Mutineers:

Hearing your band, I recognize a lot of possible influences, especially The Smiths. What bands have had the biggest impact on your music?
Yeah, we like the Smiths but i wouldn’t say they’re the strongest influence of all..although Iwan (Bass Player) has worked with Johnny Marr in the past so some of his style is bound to rub off…we also love a lot of the other cool 80s bands, Cure, Bunnymen…New Order. But also love all sorts of other stuff…Bowie, Radiohead….The National…
We found each other on Twitter, what has social media done for the band and how are you planning on using it for your inevitable world takeover?
More than anything it’s given us the chance to commuicate with people that feel an affinity with the music that we’re making, especially on a lyrical level it’s very humbling to see people getting off on the words and quoting them back to us, making fan videos and artwork, stuff like that – i guess it’s sort of an old fashioned thing that doesn’t maybe happen so much anymore, since the likes of Manic Street Preachers or indeed maybe even The Smiths…it feels in a way that we’re being willed on by a lot of people to achieve a lot more which is a nice place to be in.
What English bands do you love right now that we might not know about in the States?
A lot of people are getting off on The Tribes record at the moment..and some of the lovely female voices, in particular Ren Harvieu…the funny thing is though that there are American “versions” of these artists both on the edge of commercial success at the moment here in England…Lana Del Ray, Howler…
Do you have plans to tour the US?
We’d love to if somebody offered us the shows and paid us enough of a fee to enable us to get over, play and not live in squalor!
Final words for America?
You lot all have too much blood in your caffeine systems.

Check out the song “Shadow Kisses”, and look for the album Friends, Lovers, Rivals on iTunes.
